On 22 October, Excelsia’s talented musicians will light up the Contemporary Showcase at Lazybones Lounge alongside special guests from Wollongong.
Presented under the banner of Sonic Yatra – a collective of Excelsia University College and WollCon Community musicians – the evening promises to be a celebration of creativity, community, and the vibrant music culture growing at Excelsia. ‘Yatra’ means a pilgrimage or journey, and the music reflects just that – a sonic journey through jazz, world, and contemporary sounds.
This concert at Lazybones in Marrickville will feature rich vocal harmonies and smooth, modern neo-soul re-imaginings of familiar songs. You’ll also hear intricate and sophisticated pop music with complex, layered arrangements followed by progressive rock and jazz fusion driven by traditional Nepalese drums. The concert brings together the community musicians from WollCon and students and staff of Excelsia adapting folk melodies from across Asia and Europe into a hot jazz style using a unique array of stringed instruments from Persia, Mongolia, and Nepal alongside more familiar guitars.
If you love to dance, there will be the largest community band you have probably ever seen performing with percussion, horns, accordions, and fiddles.
This is a celebration of collaboration, community, and the creativity flourishing at Excelsia.
We’d love to see our Excelsia community there cheering on our students. Reserve your spot now and join us for a night of unforgettable music.
