Excelsia University College is proud to celebrate Dr Gino Orticio, Lecturer and Course Coordinator for Social Science, who recently presented at the European Sociological Association Research Network 15 Midterm Conference in Croatia.
The conference, themed ‘Fragmented Societies and Fragmented Science’, gathered sociologists from around the world to exchange theoretical, epistemic, and methodological tools for navigating today’s rapidly shifting global context.
Representing Excelsia, and as the only academic directly from Australia, Gino presented his paper, ‘The Politics of Broken Things: Digital Infrastructure Breakdowns and Ontological Politics’. His research explored how digital disruptions can create opportunities for Indigenous enactments to assert dominance over competing narratives shaped by colonialism, neoliberal market ideologies, and postcolonial governance.
Reflecting on the significance of the gathering, Gino noted:
‘Together with all of the conference speakers, we brought robust, systematic approaches that, taken together, offered building blocks for thinking beyond fragmentation and, as one colleague put it, a way out of illiberalisms.’
Excelsia congratulates Gino on this achievement and recognises the important role his scholarship plays in advancing critical global conversations about society, technology, and equity.
