Elevating Your Early Childhood Education Journey with Excelsia College’s Graduate Diploma

For educators already engaged in the dynamic field of early childhood education, the path of continuous growth and professional development is a natural progression. Excelsia College offers a distinctive opportunity for teachers working in daycares, schools, and similar settings to deepen their expertise through the Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching (Birth to 5). This program not only provides advanced skills but also integrates a comprehensive Christian world view, setting it apart as a transformative experience for those looking to enrich their educational journey.

The primary goal of the Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching (Birth to 5) is to produce graduates who are prepared for both professional and personal success. This includes acquiring advanced teaching skills and developing essential personal attributes such as care, empathy, and creativity. Graduates are equipped to positively impact the lives of the children they teach.

The course engages with fundamental education concepts from a Christian perspective, addressing the nature of reality, the origins of human intelligence, and the values underpinning education. By blending academic, practical, and Christian viewpoints, Excelsia College aims to nurture well-rounded early childhood education professionals who are proficient in their field and grounded in a broader understanding of the world.

A unique feature of the program is its incorporation of Christian values into the curriculum. This infusion ensures that graduates not only embody these values but also actively integrate them into their educational practices. Central tenets of the Christian world view, such as caring and empathy, become integral to the graduate’s teaching approach, fostering a learning environment that transcends conventional methods.

Students in the course will complete two professional experience units. These units will provide students with exposure to a range of pedagogies, collegial interaction and structured observation opportunities in early childhood education settings. These opportunities will enable students to experience and contribute to early childhood programs and approaches while catering for the needs of diverse groups of children. More specifically, the professional experience units support, develop and enrich professional practice by: linking the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching and learning; developing applied skills in observation and communication, organisation and management; and facilitating sustained reflection. The two professional experience units incorporate the required minimum of 60 days of supervised practice under the guidance of a more experienced teacher.

The Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching (Birth to 5) is aligned to Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) requirements for early childhood teachers. The program ensures that graduates acquire high-quality conceptual and practical skills, enabling them to meet national and local standards effectively. Comprising 48 credit points across eight core units, the Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching (Birth to 5) is carefully structured to support the holistic development of educators. Each unit contributes to the comprehensive understanding of early childhood teaching.
