Ankit Khatri, a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Birth to 5) graduate has embarked on a rewarding journey that is changing young lives and breaking gender stereotypes in early childhood education. As an educational leader at a prominent early learning centre, Ankit is living his passion, sharing knowledge with new educators and striking a personal balance with his love for cricket on weekends.
Ankit’s journey with Excelsia College was one of profound growth, deeply rooted in values of integrity, service, and leadership. ‘Studying at Excelsia helped me develop a strong character,’ Ankit shares. ‘The college’s focus on fostering ethical and responsible individuals prepared me not only as a skilled professional but also as a contributor to society in meaningful ways.’ From the outset, Excelsia’s network and supportive environment gave Ankit the resources he needed, offering practical placements and networking opportunities that seamlessly connected his studies with real-world experiences.
One of Ankit’s most cherished memories from his time at Excelsia was a unit titled ‘Life Calling’, which allowed him to solidify his commitment to early childhood education. This class prompted deep reflection and reassured him that he had chosen the right career path. Excelsia’s community provided Ankit with valuable mentorship and lifelong connections with faculty and peers alike.
Beyond his academic achievements, Ankit’s drive stems from his desire to challenge societal norms. In a predominantly female sector, he aimed to prove that men, too, can embody compassion, care and nurturing qualities, bringing unique perspectives to the classroom to help children thrive.
Ankit recalls his graduation day as a defining moment, especially with his parents visiting from Nepal. ‘It was a milestone that symbolised both an ending and a new beginning, filled with pride, reflection and hope for the future,’ he expresses. Now, as he nurtures young minds and inspires future educators, Ankit embodies the values he learned at Excelsia. His story stands as an inspiring reminder of the impact of education on individuals and the broader community.
Yvette Lucas, Associate Lecturer and Course Coordinator of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Birth to 5) at Excelsia College, shares, ‘The first 1,000 days of a child’s life are the most crucial as this is when they begin to develop their resilience, independence and personality. The time to learn how to make strong and meaningful friendships occurs in the first five years. A strong early childhood teacher can scaffold a child’s development through meaningful experiences, inquiry and exploration. The Bachelor of Early Childhood degree at Excelsia College creates opportunities for students to learn and grow with interactive workshops and role-modelling building on professional capabilities and confidence that are practical for the early childhood sector.’
