Congratulations are in order to Excelsia College student Cinzia Marrocco, who took out first place at the SRC Virtual Talent Quest! From 11 to 22 October, students were invited to upload videos of themselves performing poetry, music or dance to a private Facebook group. The Master of Teaching (Secondary) student choreographed, devised and performed her work titled Unattainable. Cinzia describes her piece as exploring the complexities of control – a concept that is often wanted but never achieved. ‘It is based on the concept that no one is able to gain control over their thoughts, feelings, circumstances, or other people. Throughout this piece, a growing lack of control is demonstrated as the dancer learns to let go of constraints and embrace the unknown.’

Cinzia Marrocco started taking dance classes at just three years of age and has since dabbled in jazz, lyrical, contemporary, ballet, hip-hop and musical theatre. Cinzia attended Brigidine College in Sydney’s north shore, where she undertook their extensive dance program. There she became dance captain in her final year and completed dance for her Higher School Certificate (HSC) where she was nominated twice for ‘Callback’, an annual showcase of exemplary performances and compositions by HSC dance students. Since high school, Cinzia has completed a Bachelor of Dance majoring in Contemporary Dance at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA) in Surry Hills, Sydney. Now she is studying at Excelsia College to become a high school dance teacher.

Despite being only 20 years of age, Cinzia has already trained with industry professionals at the Dance Makers Collective youth company and performed as part of the Sydney Arts Festival, as well as at the Art Gallery of NSW. She also worked with dance choreographer and Sydney Dance Company’s Rehearsal Director Richard Cilli to create a contemporary work with Dance Makers Collective that was performed at this year’s Sydney Arts Festival.

We can’t wait to see where Cinzia dances her way to and we are thrilled she’s joined Excelsia College this year.
