Changing your career to become a teacher is easier than you might think. Here’s why you should give it some serious consideration.
Australia needs more teachers – and while many train as fresh graduates, it’s becoming increasingly common for people to get into teaching later in their lives. It’s never too late to retrain, and the experience gleaned from other careers can pay dividends in the classroom. In fact, there are many reasons why changing your career to teach could be the best decision you ever make.
75 per cent of newly qualified teachers are employed in a teaching role within six months of completing their training, according to the Australian Government. You can find positions advertised online or send your CV if you have a specific school in mind.
If you are considering changing careers, Excelsia has a teaching course to suit you. The Master of Teaching (Primary) and Master of Teaching (Secondary) offered by the School of Education at Excelsia has a strong curriculum well-developed to empower students, by allowing them to determine the time and pace of their education, thus enabling them to create a bespoke pathway through the curriculum. The way this course is structured will help students excel not only academically and professionally, but also spiritually.
Dr Peter Stiles, Excelsia College’s Senior Education Lecturer, says the College emphasises the education of the whole student — intellectual and spiritual. While the College’s academic record is impressive, the attention to students’ spiritual development is paramount. “Christians are known by the quality and depth of their love, and the same can be said of the community at Excelsia College,” says Dr Stiles. “Our students experience this love abundantly in the friendly body of believers, and they are encouraged in turn to express the love of Christ through kindness to their peers, care of the environment, and service to the community.”
It is not too late to pursue your dream career in 2020. With the 2019 QILT results seeing Excelsia become one of the top 25 higher education providers nationwide, there’s been no better time to make the leap.
